Welcome to part three of our series on new hotel openings in Canada for 2023! In this part we take a look at Marriott Hotels who have plans to open quite a few hotels. After a quieter year in 2022 they are ramping things up again with no less than 11 new hotels set to open in Alberta, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario & Quebec. So let’s take a look at what they have in store for this year.

The chain comprises of 30 brands ranging from mid-level budget locations to high end luxury resorts.  Here in Canada we currently have 22 of their brands operating and will see one more brand added to that list when we finally see Moxy Hotels added. The new hotels opening this year will bring their portfolio to over 280 properties in Canada.

Here are the eleven twelve 14 hotels planned for 2023 in order of their anticipated opening date.

The Moxy Halifax Downtown will now have the luxury of being the first Moxy Hotel in Canada as the location in Banff has been delayed. This new build hotel in downtown Halifax is near the waterfront and will feature 160 rooms. The rooms come with one or two queens, one king, a queen and twin bunks or you’ll be able to have one with four twin bunks! They range from 210 to 280 square feet in size while one king studios are 380 square feet.

The hotel is set to open on October 10th and at the time of posting this article cash rates for the first couple of months were in the low $200 to mid $300 range per night. In terms of award nights those first couple of months had rooms ranging from 21,000 to 30,000 points per night which makes this location perfect for using the anniversary free night award from the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Cards (paying a $120 or $150 annual fee for a night that runs $200-$300 is a good way to save some money!)

Earn more points at these hotels!

If you are planning on staying at any one of these new hotels or any Marriott Hotel in the world for that matter, remember to use the Marriott Bonvoy™ American Express®* Card or the Marriott Bonvoy™ Business American Express® Card to pay for those stays as it earns 5 points per dollar spent at Marriott Hotels. This includes dining, spa and other hotel spending so long as you bill them to your room.

Also be sure to take advantage of Marriott Bonvoy bonus points offers that are available to members of the program. At the time of posting this feature, Marriott’s systemwide promotion offers 1,000 bonus points & 1 bonus elite night credit on every night completed. You do have to register by April 9 for stays until April 23, 22 so this current bonus will only cover the first three hotel openings on the list but you can still earn it for stays at any other Marriott Hotels. Marriott does run other promotions as well but those can be hard to find on their site so Rewards Canada has done the legwork for you by finding and listing those offers on our Marriott Bonvoy Bonus Points page.
