Welcome to the second installment of our series on new hotel openings in Canada for 2023! In this part we take a look at IHG Hotels & Resorts who are planning on opening 11 new hotels in B.C., Saskatchewan and Ontario. So let’s see what they have in store for this year!

IHG Hotels & Resorts is one of the largest chains in the world best known for their Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands. IHG however comprises of 18 brands and have well over 6,000 hotels worldwide. They have a significant presence here in Canada with nearly 200 properties from coast to coast.

With 18 brands, IHG Hotels offers budget friendly to ultra luxurious properties all around the world. Here in Canada we currently have eight of those brands to choose from.

The 11 new IHG Hotels

Highlights:

Holiday Inn Express & Suites – Toronto Airport South

This location may become a favourite for Plane Spotters / Avgeeks as it is literally at the end of runways 24L/R at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport! The hotel will have 120 rooms, 23 of which are suites and features an indoor heated pool. As with all HI Express locations this hotel will provide the Express Start Breakfast which includes a full hot breakfast and a selection of cold items as well.

Elk Lake Inn & Suites Victoria

This hotel is not a new build but a new addition to IHG Hotels. It used to be a Howard Johnson and has been renovated prior to joining IHG. This location is now open and is situated on the North side of Victoria with easy access to the Patricia Bay Highway. The Elk Lake Inn & Suites features rooms with one king or two queens, has an outdoor pool and guests can dine at The Lakes Restaurant.

Wrapping it up

2023 is shaping up to be another good year for new IHG hotels in Canada. With 11 locations planned in three provinces they look to surpass 200 locations nationwide this year. This should help them retain their spot as the second largest major hotel chain in Canada after Marriott and staying slightly ahead of Hilton.
