British Airways has launched a status match offer for Canadian and U.S. residents who are elite members in select programs including Air Canada Aeroplan. The status match provides 6 months of automatic British Airways Executive Club Silver or Gold Tier status. You must apply for the status match by May 7, 2024.
The Status Match offer
Here are the programs and respective status match levels:
Then you can retain the status to the end of the membership year by completing two qualifying transatlantic flights in first or business class within six months of the date you receive your status match. The flights must originate from Canada, the U.S. or Mexico.
Qualifying flights are defined as:
A Qualifying Flight is a published fare or a net fare negotiated by BA for various corporate customers, for a round trip flight in First or Club World (Business Class) in any selling class, with: a prefix of British Airways (BA) and operated by British Airways (BA), American Airlines (AA), Iberia (IB) or Finnair (AY) between North America, Canada, Mexico and Europe, Norway, Switzerland only. The promotion does not apply to travel on flights operated by any other BA franchisees, codeshare partners or oneworld Alliance members.
British Airways Executive Club elite status benefits
Here are the benefits associated with the Silver (oneworld Sapphire) and Gold (oneworld Emerald)
Wrapping it up
This is an excellent opportunity for Canadian elite status members in the above listed programs to get themselves British Airways and thus oneworld Elite status.Even if you don’t have any concrete plans to fly on BA or their partners but think you might over the next six months you may want to jump on this match so that you have that status ready for when you do fly.
Now if you know 100% that you won’t be able to make use of this status over the next months and/or will not fly two transatlantic round trips in the next months it might not be advisable to get this match as it may preclude you from any future status matches (this isn’t stated in the terms but I’d rather want to be safe than sorry)
