Let us know if your PC Optimum has been frozen

It looks like the big loyalty program issue from 2024 may be rearing it’s ugly head again here in 2025. That’s issue was with PC Optimum and them freezing members accounts – without notifying members and then many were stuck at the till hoping to use their points when they couldn’t!

After a few relatively quiet months where we did not receive many complaints there is some indication that there may be an increase in accounts being frozen again? If this has happened to you please reach out to us at info@rewardscanada.ca as we would like to see how wide ranging the problem may be this time around. And if you are in Quebec, let us know if they contacted you about your account being frozen as the program’s updated terms and conditions (as of Oct 31, 24) state they will notify members in Quebec.

The first City Express by Marriott in Canada will be in Port Hope, Ontario

One of the acquisitions that Marriott International made over the past few years was Mexico’s City Express Hotels. Once the purchase was complete the Mexican Hotel chain was rebranded as City Express by Marriott and plans were laid out to expand the budget-midscale brand to the U.S. and Canada.

The first location outside of Mexico opened today in Duluth, Georgia and in today’s announcement of the opening it was revealed the first City Express by Marriott location in Canada will be in Port Hope, Ontario. They state it will open later this year so it will most likely be the conversion of another brand which could only mean the Comfort Inn or it’s the Best Western or Hampton Inn in Cobourg but those latter two seem less likely?

Outside of the news in today’s press release I cannot find much information about this location so I won’t be adding to our article on Marriott’s New Hotel Openings in Canada for 2025 just yet!
