The Ultimate No Foreign Transaction Fee Credit Card Portfolio (Updated)

With the recent changes to the Wealthsimple Cash Card and confirmation that the Zoomer+ Mastercards in fact do charge FX Fees, I was able to update our Ultimate No Foreign Transaction Fee Credit Card Portfolio as the EQ Bank Card is now the better No FX Fee Mastercard option for the portfolio as it still offers rewards.

If you are not familiar with our Ultimate Portfolios, they highlight one American Express, one Mastercard and one Visa that are best suited as a trio for a particular task – in this case No FX Fees! And what it shows we really need a true Mastercard in the market with No FX Fees after the loss of the HSBC World Elite Mastercard!

IHG One Rewards discounted reward nights offer for stays at new hotels and newly renovated locations has been updated again (it’s updated at the start of each month) And with this update two more Canadian locations are available. With this offer the amount of points required for free nights will be discounted by 15% for stays at new and renovated locations around the world until October 31, November 30, or December 31, 2025.

This month’s update saw the following Canadian locations added as newly renovated properties:

  • Holiday Inn & Suites Kamloops (Valid until Dec 31, 25)
  • Staybridge Suites London (Valid until Dec 31, 25)

And the following Canadian location is still available:

J.D. Power 2025 Canada Credit Card Satisfaction Study ranks the American Express Cobalt Card as #1

American Express Cobalt Card

 

The card that Rewards Canada has ranked as the best overall rewards card in Canada for 8 years straight, the American Express Cobalt Card, has also been ranked as the highest among credit cards with an annual fee in J.D. Power 2025 Canada Credit Card Satisfaction Study. It was followed by the PC Insiders World Elite Mastercard and Desjardins Cash Back World Elite Mastercard.

In term of customer satisfaction American Express also ranked the highest amongst credit card issuers followed by Tangerine Bank and PC Financial.

Really no surprises in the top of the rankings to us in the Rewards Canada community!
