The best credit cards for everyday non-bonused category spending
We have updated our feature on The best credit cards for everyday non-bonused category spending. This article looks at the best card options for those who may not have a lot of spending in the typical bonused categories of groceries, gas, dining etc.
It is also ideal for those looking to maximize their points earning and in turn reward value who do have spend across all categories and have a big points earning card for those typical categories but don’t want to be stuck earning the usual 1 point (1 cent) per dollar outside of those categories on those specific category big points earners.

It’s Thursday! So you know what that means! Time to check and load all your personalized shopping offers.
Scene+
For me the overall Scene+ grocery offer is not as good this week and it’s an odd one. It is for Sobeys only and it provides 1,120 bonus points when spending $225 or more in one shop. That’s a high spend I probably won’t hit, some people will though, but where do they come up with 1,120 points? That’s $11.20 in value. Not that it’s bad, well it is a lower typically bonus of less than 5% back in points (The past few weeks provided up to 10%) but why 1,120? That’s just such an odd number and who comes up with that? Why not 1,150 or 1,200 or 1,250? Anyways, I digress.
The personalized offers for me look quite good but once again some of these are items I bought over the past few days so it is unlikely I’ll be needing them right away here to earn more points. They still need to work on the timing of these offers to coincide with when a member would likely be running out of them and needing to buy them again.
And don’t forget to use your Scene+ earning credit card for your purchases to earn even more points, namely the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card which earns an amazing 6 points per dollar (a 6% return) at Sobeys, Safeway, IGA and other Empire grocery stores.
AIR MILES
The AIR MILES Receipts offers for this week continue to be somewhat thinned out, personally I may be able to get one or two of the items.
There is also an opt-in offer to earn 25 bonus miles when you earn at least 1 AIR MILES via Card Linked Offers.
Moi Rewards
It appears there are no general Moi Rewards offers this week. Be sure to check the app and flyer for product bonuses and personalized offers.
More Rewards
More Rewards is once again offering 2x Points on each $1 of qualifying purchases with no minimum spend required until Nov 27, 2024. Plus this week they have their Mystery Gift Offer. Simply load your Mystery Gift to your card andheck the receipt on your next purchase to see what gift you receive. The last time I got one it was a whopping 100 points (42 cents in value)
PC Optimum
There is a Black Friday offer to earn 25,000 bonus points when you spend $100 or more on Home, Electronics (excludes gaming), Toys, Health & Beauty, Baby and Joe Fresh products at Real Canadian Superstore until November 28.
There will also be a 20,000 bonus points offer launching at Shoppers Drug Mart starting on Friday November 22. This is valid on purchases of $90 or more.
You can also earn 2,500 points when you make 2 purchases of $40 or more on fuel at Esso & Mobil untl December 18.
