Chexy expands into bill payments and taxes – use your credit cards to earn rewards
Chexy, the young Canadian start up that has allowed Canadians to use credit cards to pay for rent has now expanded into bill payments and taxes. This means you can now use your credit card to pay those pesky utility companies that don’t accept credit cards and you can good old Canada Revenue Agency as well!
Chexy accepts Visa and American Express cards and they charge a 1.75% fee on all rent, bill and tax payments.
Using Chexy is a great way to help you meet the minimum spending requirements to earn a welcome bonus when you get a new credit card. After that you have to do the math to see if the rewards on you credit card will provide more value than 1.75%. Chexy does code as recurring bill payment so one of the most popular cards to use with Chexy is the Scotia Momentum® Visa* Infinite card as it earns 4% cash back on recurring bills (Up to $25,000 annually)
You could also look at cards that provide outsized value like any of the Amex Membership Rewards cards. Even with ony 1 to 1.25 points per dollar earned with Chexy, when those points are converted to Aeroplan, Britsh Airways, Air France KLM etc. you have the potential to get well over 2% back so you would be coming out ahead of the 1.75% fee.
