Neo Financial steps up for holders of the Hudson’s Bay Mastercard
Earlier in the week we brought you the news that the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program was paused for earning and redeeming points due the Hudson’s Bay going into creditor protection. This news had me advising people not to use their Hudson’s Bay Mastercards due to the uncertainty surrounding the value and the future of Hudson’s Bay points.
The good news in this is that Neo Financial has stepped up so that Hudson’s Bay cardholders don’t have to stop using their cards. The card has essentially be changed into a cash back rewards card (at least temporarily, until we get a final verdict on Hudson’s Bay Rewards in the future)
Starting March 12, 2025, and until further notice, you’ll now earn 2% cashback on purchases at Hudson’s Bay and 1% cashback everywhere else when you use your Hudson’s Bay Mastercard. No action is needed from you currently—just keep using your card as usual, and stay tuned for steps you may be required to take in the coming weeks.
So instead of earning Hudson’s Bay points, the cards are offering cash back to all cardholders. This is a great move by Neo to preserve the cardholder base’s ability to be rewarded and to still use the cards – especially for those who may have this as their only credit card in their wallet.
Neo should also be applauded for temporarily shutting off the ability to apply for this card until we know the outcome of the HBC’s CCAA proceedings.
