Lufthansa’s Miles & More moving to dynamic award flight pricing
Another day another potential devaluation as yesterday saw Miles & More announce changes are coming to the program. The FFP for the Lufthansa Group will be moving to dynamic award flights on Lufthansa, SWISS, and Austrian as of June 3, 2025. This doesn’t come as a surprise as most airlines have moved to dynamic pricing, especially on their own metal (Air Canada Aeroplan is great example of this) and Miles & More were one of the last hold outs by offering full on award chart redemption options.

History has almost always proven that when a frequent flyer program moves to dynamic pricing it is a devaluation of the program. Yes, there is more availability (however not so with Miles & More’s changes, see below), yes, there is the potential to get some award flights for less than prior with fixed pricing but for the most part in the end with a change to dynamic pricing, it sees members of the programs having to dole out more miles and points for awards. Not only that, since the dynamic pricing follows cash pricing of flights, the tendency to be able to redeem for coveted outsized value awards is greatly reduced.
The program will continue to have an award flight chart for Star Alliance and Miles & More airline partners not listed above and the values in those will be changing as well with some rewards being made cheaper and some more expensive (First Class long haul take a big hit) but the majority of options will remain the same.
Typically when an airline moves to dynamic pricing, they allow points and miles to be redeemed for any available seat on any flight (Since the redemption follows cash pricing) but this will not be the case with Miles & More. They are still going to limit availability while charging the dynamic pricing. Who thought of this? It’s an absurd move but Miles & More has never been known for making gracious moves so it’s not a surprise.
Although they do state there may be more availability on some routes:
“These changes may lead to greater availability on some routes. You’ll also benefit from particularly low mileage amounts for Economy Class on some routes. On the other hand, you may need higher mileage amounts on certain routes that are in high demand.”
The last part of the bad news from this announcement was pointed out by Loyalty Lobby and that is the monthly Mileage Bargains offers, which are the discounted awards which we have brought to you every month right here on RWRDS Canada for many years now will be discontinued for the Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian. They will continue to be offered on other Miles & More airlines which for Canada are LOT Polish Airlines and Discover Airlines – so not a lot of options there.
