The TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card, a long standing offering in the Canadian travel rewards credit card market has received its upgrade that we let you know about this past January! This card, which has one of the best current welcome bonus offers of up to 135,000 bonus points (I highly recommend getting it sooner than later!) now offers airport lounge access with free annual passes as well additional accelerated earn rates in several purchase categories. The good news with all these updates? They have not taken anything away or charging any more to provide them.
Airport Lounge Access Membership + Free Annual Access Passes
Finally, finally, finally – the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card has a benefit that helps it live up to its name! We’ve always said it’s called “First Class” and yet did not really provide any benefits that made it a “First Class Travel” card. Now, at the very least, the card offers complimentary Visa Airport Companion membership plus 4 free annual lounge visits passes.
The Visa Airport Companion program is operated by DragonPass and this benefit covers the primary cardholder’s annual membership in the program (typically worth US$99) and then it also provides the primary cardholder with four annual lounge access passes. With lounge access running US$32 per visit with the program that’s an additional US$128 in value.
Once all four passes are used up the cardholder can still access lounges thanks to the membership and pay that discounted rate of US$32 versus the roughly C$50-$60 being charged for pre-booked or walk up entries to the lounges.
New Accelerated Earn Rates on Public Transit, Streaming, Gaming & Digital Purchases and Drinking Establishments
TD has added further accelerated earn rates on the card for the following types of purchases:
Public Transit Purchases – Earn 6 TD Rewards Points for every $1 in Public Transit Purchases. (Annual cap: $25,000)
Streaming, Digital Gaming & Media Purchases – These are being added into the Pre-Authorized Purchases accelerated earn rates the card has. Streaming, Digital Gaming & Media Purchases Earn 4 TD Rewards Points for every $1 (Annual cap: $25,000 for PAP and Streaming, Digital Gaming & Media combined)
Drinking Establishments – These are being added into the Grocery and Restaurant purchases accelerated earn rates the card offers. Drinking Establishments (such as bars, nightclubs, and cocktail lounges) will earn 6 TD Rewards Points for every $1 (Annual cap remains at $25,000 for this category)
All other earn rates remain the same:
In addition to the new earn rates listed above the card continues to earn TD Rewards Points as follows:
- 8 Points per dollar spent when you book travel through Expedia® For TD.
- 6 Points per dollar spent on Groceries and Restaurants
- 4 Points per dollar spent on regularly recurring bill payments set up on your Account
- 2 Points per dollar spent on all other eligible purchases
Plus you will earn an annual Birthday Bonus of up to 10,000 TD Rewards Points. This bonus is equal to 10% of the total number of TD Rewards Points earned over the 12 months preceding the Primary Cardholder’s birthday, to a maximum Birthday Bonus of 10,000 TD Rewards Points.
One of the best current welcome bonus offers
The TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card has one of the best introductory welcome bonus offers in the market right now and if you want to get in on this elevated offer I recommend getting the card sooner than later:

What’s the trade off?
Normally when we see improvements made to credit cards (especially from the big banks) there is some sort of trade off but in this case there really isn’t. They haven’t increased the annual fee, they haven’t messed with other earn rates, the redemption rates stay the same and so on.
The only trade off, if you can call it that, that are being made by the bank is that they have added and increased some rates and fees on the card – which are all avoidable! The purchase interest rate and cash advance rate is now 21.99% (up from 20.99% – most banks seem to be going to 21.99% now) They have also increased the fee on balance transfers from 3% to up to 5% and credit balances if not used within 12 months will be subject to a $10 fee.
Wrapping it up
Great news for new and existing TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card holders as the enhancements announced earlier this year are no live. These are the first changes seen to the card since its last revamp in 2022 and they are all positive. They are giving the cardholder more without taking away – a rarity in the market these days with only the likes of Rogers and several other smaller issuers providing actual improvements to their cards.
It’s great to see airport lounge access with free passes being offered on the card and even more ways to earn more points with this flexible points travel card. Now, I’ll have to start running the numbers as these changes may actually move the card up to 4th spot in the Top Travel Points Card with an Annual Fee category in our Top Travel Rewards Credit Card rankings!
