Rogers World Elite Mastercard

Canada’s best no fee cash back card, the Rogers World Elite Mastercard is being improved! (For Rogers customers that is)

Canada’s best no fee cash back rewards credit card, the Rogers World Elite Mastercard is being made even better for Rogers customers as of April 9th! Current cardholders are reporting the receipt of an email from Rogers announcing the change that will bring the card up to the speed with their recently revamped Rogers Mastercard. The card is also being renamed to the Rogers Red World Elite Mastercard

Base earn rate increases to 2%

For Rogers/Shaw/Fido customers, the World Elite Mastercard’s base earn rate is being bumped up to 2% from the current 1.5% as of April 9. (non Rogers/Shaw/Fudo customers will continue to earn 1.5% and 3% for U.S. purchases)

This earn rate matches the earn rate that Rogers/Shaw/Fido customers receive on the Rogers Mastercard.

50% bonus when redeeming for Rogers/Shaw/Fido purchases

Also launching on April 9 is the same 1.5x multiplier that is seen on the Rogers Mastercard. This is the bonus you receive when you redeem your cash back for Rogers/Shaw/Fido purchases (services/products etc.) With the 50% extra these redemptions work out to 3% cash back. This should also mean the 3% back on U.S purchases will work out to a 4.5% cash back return for this redemption option.

5 Free Roam Like Home days per year

And, just like the Rogers Mastercard, the World Elite Mastercard will now receive 5 Roam Like Home Days annually at no cost.

Removal of $15,000 annual spend requirement

Finally, they are removing the annual spend requirement of $15,000 to keep the World Elite Mastercard. I don’t believe Rogers actually enforced this like PC Financial did but nonetheless it is good to know the possibility of being downgraded is gone.

Everything else remains the same

The rest of the features on the Rogers World Elite Mastercard remain the same. The Mastercard TravelPass by DragonPass airport lounge access membership, free global Wi-Fi with Boingo and insurance benefits have not changed.

Wrapping it up

Rogers continues to be one of the only card issuers in Canada that is going in an upwards direction with their credit card offerings right now. They spend most of last year improving the entry level Rogers Mastercard and now are doing the same for the Rogers World Elite Mastercard. Granted, to get the most out of the cards it pays to be a Rogers customer but even if you are not don’t ignore the World Elite version of the card as it is the best overall no fee cash back credit card in Canada with its 1.5% base earn rate, 3% on U.S. purchases, airport lounge access membership and good insurance benefits.
