Marriott Bonvoy has brought back a bonus of up to 45% for buying their points. While we have seen 60% in the past (during the pandemic) I don’t think we’ll ever see that again but 50% does come around so if you don’t points now you could choose to wait
The up to 45% bonus
Receive up to a 45% bonus when you buy 2,000 or Marriott Bonvoy points. Offer valid to Mar 30, 25. Click here for more details and to buy Marriott Bonvoy Points.
- 35% bonus when you buy 2,000-9,000 points
- 40% bonus when you buy 10,000-39,000 points
- 45% bonus when you buy 40,000 + points
With a 45% bonus you are buying points for 0.86 cents US$ each or about 1.3 to 1.6 cents each in C$ (Depending on which province you are in as the points purchase is subject to GST/HST).
We value Marriott Bonvoy points at roughly 1 cent (C$) per point at a minimum. That being said, we always stress it is a minimum. We’ve seen examples where redeeming points provide 2 or 3 cents per point in value. For example, in our Marriott’s New Hotel Openings in Canada for 2025 we have an example where you can redeem points for a stay at the new AC Hotel Ottawa Downtown with a value of 2.91 cents per point – or close to a 50% discount on the cash price of a stay if you buy points with this bonus for award nights at that hotel. It is such cases that can make sense to buy the points as a cost savings measure against the sky high hotel prices we are seeing for stays all around the globe!
As buy points transactions are processed by Points.com they do not count as travel purchases on your credit so your best bet is to use a card with higher base everyday earn rate, of which some of the best are none other than Marriott’s own Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card or the Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card
Buy points for even less
If you are planning on staying at any Marriott Hotels around the world be sure to check if those hotels have an individual hotel bonus points offer available. Those bonus points offers can sometimes cost less than the best member flexible rates but in most cases are the same or slightly more than the non-member flexible rate so in effect you pay a little more to get the bonus points, thus another method of buying points. The trick here though is many times that little bit extra you pay is WAY cheaper than buying points from Marriott even with a 45% or higher bonus.
