You can buy up to 200,000 Avios in one transaction and there is a limit of purchasing 200,000 Avios annually per member to which the bonus does not count towards.

The 40% bonus offer:

The 40% bonus is not the highest public offer from the program, as we have seen 50% in the past and some targeted offers  with a 75% bonus. And then you can also get good offers buying Avios via Qatar Airways or Finnair.

With British Airways, the more Avios you buy the cheaper each one gets with the lowest price being for the maximum 200,000 Avios level (although the difference per Avios is quite minuscule from other levels) At the 200K level each Avios costs 1.64 cents. That’s a pretty good price to purchase them at to be used for premium cabin redemptions – or even for economy class with the current up to 40% off reward flights sale!

For example this round trip flight out of Toronto which is 40% off:

which has a cash price of $1107.13:

By purchasing Avios your total cost including the C$200 in fees on the reward ticket should come in just below C$900 (If you are buying at the higher levels) to just under $1,000 if purchasing just enough to cover 30,000 Avios (You have to buy 25,000 + 10,000 bonus for 35,000) – so you can end up saving up to a few hundred dollars by going with the buy Avios route.
