>> plus join Cathay during this promotion to earn 1,200 bonus miles on your first mileage earn. <<

Earning these bonus miles in the Canadian market

Goal 1 is the easiest to reach for Canadians. If you have the Cathay World Elite® Mastercard® – powered by Neo that should count as one transaction and then you could simply do a transfer from American Express Memberships Rewards or RBC Avion to get your second transaction. Or you if don’t have the Cathay World Elite Mastercard card you could do a transfer from both Amex Membership Rewards and RBC Avion Rewards (If you have both!) ….. warning please read “Wrapping it up” below before transferring.

Other earning options including crediting an Air Canada or any oneworld flight to your Cathay account, hotel stays, car rentals and the list goes on.

Or you could also redeem miles, and if you happen to be redeeming for travel on Cathay to Hong Kong don’t forget you can get a 5,000 miles rebate for award flights out of Toronto and Vancouver. Learn about the rebate offer here.

Goal 2, you have to earn from two categories, well the first category that is taken care of easily is payments which are the Neo, Amex and RBC options. The second could be flights or holidays (Holidays includes hotels, car rentals etc.) but after that it gets tough. Shopping does not include their online shopping mall (Which is available to Canadians) but if you are traveling to Asia, Cathay does have lots of shopping partners in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and other countries. Same goes for wellness and dining – those can really only be earned in Asia.

Goal 3, this one is tougher unless you earn enough miles on the Cathay World Elite® Mastercard® or transfer enough points from Amex Membership Rewards or RBC Avion.

Goal 4: This a relatively easy one to earn…. if you are able and wanting to redeem via Cathay Holidays or order something from the Cathay Shop with miles.

Wrapping it up

As mentioned in the intro, if you are someone earning or planning on earning Asia Miles you should register for this offer. Even if you aren’t planning to, you should register for this offer just in case! I always stress you should register for all offer regardless of your plans as plans do change!

With that said however, I wouldn’t go out of my way to earn the bonus miles, that is, I wouldn’t change my habits to earn them. For example, don’t convert points from Amex or RBC just for the sake of this offer – the incentive isn’t big enough considering Cathay has in the past and most likely will in the future, offer bonuses on transfers (typically 10-15%)

Update: RBC launched a transfer bonus to Asia Miles today! Receive a 15% bonus when you convert Avion Rewards points to Asia Miles. Learn more here.

However, if you need to  transfer by the end of May, then great your one step closer to getting one of the goals in this offer.
