Buy IHG points 100% bonus

Buy IHG One Rewards points with a 100% bonus

IHG One Rewards members can earn up to a 100% bonus with the hotel program’s latest flash sale for buying points that runs until October 11, 2025.

With this version of the 100% bonus offer you can buy up to 200,000 points and receive 400,000 in total with the bonus, which will cost US$2,000.  This means each point will only cost you 0.5 cents (US$).  However, you don’t have to buy that many to get in on that lowest price, the 0.5 US cents per point kicks in when you buy a minimum of 26,000 points.

We don’t encourage buying points just because there is a bonus but if you can foresee a potential use for them in the next few months it can definitely be worthwhile to buy them. And with IHG running at least six or more 100% bonuses per year there is no rush to go out and buy them.

Does it make sense buy IHG One Rewards Points?

Like any bonus for buying points or miles it can make sense to buy them if you are able to redeem them for more value per point than you pay for them.  With the 100% bonus you’ll come out ahead if you can redeem with a value of C$ 0.8 cents per point or higher. This is based on buying 26,000 or more points and being in Ontario where you pay HST.  The value fluctuates slightly depending on where you live in Canada as the purchase is subject to GST or HST. So places like Alberta and the Territories pay less while Atlantic Canada will pay more.

Here’s an example of a one night stay at InterContinental Toronto Centre where you can use a buy points bonus to get a discount on a stay:

For this one night stay you could redeem 80,000 points or pay $772.56 all in. If we take away the $28.25 amenity fee which is also charged on the award night, you can see that you would be redeeming 80,000 points for $744.31 of the total cash price. That works out 0.93 cents per point, a full 0.13 cents per point over our minimum 0.8 cents we outlined above.

The other way to look at it is that buying 80,000 points costs US$452 (This includes HST if you are in Ontario) and when you convert that into C$, you end up paying around C$630 in total. That’s a C$114.31 saving over paying cash for the above stay example.
