Receive up to an 80% bonus when you buy Air France KLM Flying Blue Miles

A bonus for buying Flying Blue Miles has returned with the program for Air France KLM and this time you can get up to 80% more miles. With past offers providing a 100% or 50% discount, this offering is weaker but if you are short some miles for a redemption or can find one with better redemption value than what you pay for the miles (namely the AF KLM Flying Blue Promo Rewards) it can make sense to buy them right now with this discount.

The up to 80% bonus offer:

When does it make sense to buy miles?

Does it make sense to buy Air France KLM Flying Blue miles with an 80% bonus when they have had better offers and most likely will have better ones in the future?

It can make sense if you need to top off your account for an imminent redemption or if you are searching for availability and find a redemption where the value is at least 2.5 to 2.75 cents per mile (in C$). With an 80% bonus, the per mile cost is 1.69 cents in US$ or about 2.31 cents in C$. Then as Canadians we have to pay GST/HST on top of that as Points, who facilitates the purchase, is a Canadian company. That’s where we get the rough 2.5 to 2.75 cents per mile in redemption value to at least break even with this buy miles offer.

Now, it is very feasible to find redemptions with 3, 4 or even more cents per mile in value but I would find those rewards first and make sure you want to book those flights prior to purchasing miles as mileage purchases are non-refundable.

Be sure to check this month’s promo rewards – the business class offers out of Ottawa could just very well be one of those where you can get more value!
