This past week saw Air Canada Aeroplan announce some additional changes to their elite status program. One of the changes is effective immediately while the others will take place as of January 2024.
Air Canada Cafe complimentary guest access expanded
This is the one announced change that is effective immediately and it expands the guest access to Air Canada Cafes for Aeroplan 50K and higher members. These members will now be able to bring in one guest plus their spouse and up to five dependent chidren instead of just one guest.
Increased value with Flight Pass purchases
As of January 1st, 2024 Aeroplan Elite members purchasing Air Canada Flight Passes will now receive bonus eUpgrade credits and bonus SQMs instead of having to pick one or the other. These are the bonuses that will be credited at the time of purchase based on your elite status at that time:
- Aeroplan 25K: 4 eUpgrade credits and 750 SQM
- Aeroplan 35K: 6 eUpgrade credits and 1,000 SQM
- Aeroplan 50K: 8 eUpgrade credits and 1,250 SQM
- Aeroplan 75K: 10 eUpgrade credits and 1,500 SQM
- Aeroplan Super Elite: 12 eUpgrade credits and 2,500 SQM
Simplified Lower Requalification Select Benefit
Currently Aeroplan 50K and higher elite members can elect to receive a lower Requalification Level Select Benefit which will change to bonus SQM and SQS as of January 1, 2023.
The Lower Requalification Level Select Benefit, available to Aeroplan 50K, 75K, and Super Elite Members, will be replaced by a one-time bonus of 5,000 Status Qualifying Miles (SQM) and 5 Status Qualifying Segments (SQS). This means that, if you choose this new benefit, you’ll see the bonus right away, and it will count towards reaching Threshold Gifts and Threshold eUpgrades.
