New Hilton Hotel Openings in Canada for 2023

A new year means the return of Rewards Canada’s series on new hotel openings in Canada! This year we kick it off with Hilton Hotels who are looking at another big year of expansion in our great country. At the time of posting this article Hilton are planning on opening 14 new hotels in 4 provinces. Let’s take a look at what Hilton has in store for 2023.

Hilton Hotels falls into the category of a major worldwide hotel chain as they have over 7,000 hotels globally and a significant presence here in Canada with over 180 hotels in nine provinces. That number is growing quickly as Hilton has many more locations in the pipeline over the next few years.

The Hilton family of hotels comprises of 19 brands ranging from nice budget hotels with the Hampton Inn brand to ultra luxurious hotels from the iconic Waldorf Astoria brand.  Here in Canada we currently have ten of their brands operating and the eleventh, Canopy by Hilton is being added this year.

For 2023 there are 14 planned Hilton openings in Canada, several of which were originally planned for 2022 but were moved to this year. Check out last year’s new Hilton Hotel openings here

The 14 new Hilton Hotels

Highlights:

Canopy by Hilton Toronto – Yorkville

 

The Hilton hotel that we would say is most anticipated for 2023 is the Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville. Pushed back from 2021 and 2022 this hotel will be the first Canopy by Hilton in Canada. The hotel, which is part of the the new mixed-use Rosedale on Bloor building will feature 178 rooms, an indoor pool, restaurant and cafe. Hilton tells us “the property will reflect the vibrant energy of the Yorkville neighborhood by bringing in local elements through design, art, food and beverage in signature Canopy style.”  Based on the Hilton website this hotel is set to open on February 23, 2023 and they are accepting reservations for that night (subject to change of course)

 

 

The Canopy by Hilton Toronto Yorkville looks to have award nights starting at 70,000 points (Hilton does not publish a chart but that’s the lowest we could see on the website). Since it is a new hotel you can also book the newly added “New Hotel Bonus Points Rate” which offers 1,000 bonus points per night at no additional cost:

Hampton Inn by Hilton Winnipeg Downtown

Another highlight for Hilton is the Hampton Inn by Hilton Winnipeg Downtown. You may ask why as it is just a Hampton Inn? To be honest with you, in the half dozen or so years we have been covering new hotel openings in Canada, Manitoba has been largely ignored. There aren’t a lot of new hotel openings in this central province and we have never highlighted one before for the province! So it is good to see this additional option in YWG opening up this July.

We don’t know too much about the hotel itself but do know it used to be a Best Western Plus. It is situated right in downtown Winnipeg and within walking distance of the Canada Life Centre (Where the Winnipeg Jets play), the RBC Convention Centre and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

Earn more points at these hotels!

Wrapping it up

With over a dozen new hotels on tap, it appears Hilton will be the hotel chain with the most new locations opening up in Canada for the second year in a row. It is nice to see Hilton continue to expand their presence here and it is great for Canadian Hilton Honors members to have more locations to earn and burn points at domestically. While we don’t have a Hilton co-branded credit card here in Canada – hopefully this continued big expansion is incentive for them to do so. In the meantime you can convert American Express Membership Rewards points to Hilton Honors so that’s one avenue for you to rack up more points to redeem for free nights at these new or any other Hilton locations.
