RBC is now making a push for their co-brand Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Visa card with the release of the best ever bonus offer seen for this card. Right now until the end of October when you apply for and receive the RBC Cathay Pacific Visa Platinum Card you can earn up to 40,000 Asia Miles. This a 5,000 mile jump over the offer we have seen in the market since 2018.
Here is how the new bonus is broken down:

- Step 2: Get 25,000 Asia Miles when you spend $7,000 CAD on qualifying purchases in the first 3 months†
It does have a big of hefty spend requirement however the target market for this card should have no problem spending that amount to earn the bonus. It is also nice to see the entire bonus is awarded on approval and spend – no waiting until you card anniversary to receive all the miles this time!

This card has a niche market and that is the semi-frequent to frequent Cathay Pacific flyer. By that we mean the 2 Asia Miles per $1 spent online for Cathay Pacific flights. Someone who does buy Cathay Pacific tickets with some frequency will stand to earn quite a few Asia Miles by using this card for those purchases. This is especially big for those who travel for business and are allowed to buy the tickets themselves and have their employer or clients reimburse them. On top of that you also have the complimentary Green Tier in the Marco Polo club the first year you have the card so that you can get a small taste of Cathay Pacific elite status.
Once you hit that $7,000 spend level you’ll receive the 40,000 miles plus have at least 7,000 more miles from the spend which will give you enough miles for a one way premium economy ticket between Vancouver and Hong Kong:
Miles required for a one flight YVR-HKG |
Or a round trip flight on Air Canada in Economy Class between Vancouver and Toronto:
Miles required for a round trip flight YVR-YYZ |
Wrapping it up
Just as we have seen RBC do with their British Airways co-brand card we now see the bank provide the best ever offer of up to 40,000 Asia Miles for their RBC Cathay Pacific Visa Platinum Card. This card definitely has its target market and that is the Cathay Pacific flyer. Its key selling point being the 2 miles per dollar earned when buying flights with Cathay Pacific, which is the highest out of any card in Canada. So if you fly Cathay Pacific frequently and have Asia Miles as your primary frequent flyer program but don’t have this card yet now may be the time to check it out.
