Lufthansa has a new status match opportunity that is open to Canadians and is for those who hold elite status with Italy’s ITA Airways. As ITA Airways is now partially owned by the Lufthansa Group and is becoming a member of Star Alliance it looks like they may fold the Italian airline’s Volare program and have the airline adopt LH’s Miles & More program. With that potentiall happening they are giving an opportunity to those who hold status with ITA to match into LH so that you can continue to have elite status benefits if and when ITA adopt Miles & More.
You may recall we detailed an opportunity to match to ITA Airways way back in the summer of 2024 which for Canadians primarily meant using status from WestJet but also several other airlines like American and British Airways. So if you happened to jump on that match that provided ITA status until the end of 2025, you should be able use that to match into Miles & More!
Even though this match is run through Loyalty Status Co. which normally requires a fee to match, this particular match does not have a fee, presumably since both airlines are part of the LH Group and the likelihood of ITA Airways adopting Miles & More as its frequent flyer program.
If your match is successful you will receive and get to hold the respective Miles & More elite status until February 28, 2027. If you currently hold Miles & More status and Volare status and the latter maps to the same or higher level you can still match and that way your Miles & More status will be extended to the same date of February 28, 2027.
Long time Rewards Canada community member Chris C. has let us know he has already completed the match from Volare Club Executive to Senator and since Volare Club Executive allows for nominations to Club Premium, which he gave to his wife, she is now matched to Senator as well.
