A new limited time benefit has been added to one of Canada’s best overall credit cards, the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card. Right now cardholders can get free Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status for 12 months – bypassing Marriott’s standard requirement of having to complete 10 nights in a year to achieve this status level.

The Free Silver Elite Status Benefit
Scotiabank Gold American Express cardholders can access this benefit through the card’s concierge service provided by Ten. I always forget this card has the concierge benefit as the focus is always on its great points earning and No FX Fees!
If you are already a cardholder you should have or will receive an email like the example above that Josh provided to us with the instructions to sign up for the status. There will be a link to voucher which has another link where you can then complete a form to request your Silver Elite status. You need to be a Marriott Bonvoy member which you can join for free right here.
They state it can take up to 30 days to receive your upgraded status so if you want to avail of the benefits before some upcoming Marriott stays you’ll probably want to register for the upgrade right away. Not only that, we don’t know when the offer will be pulled as it is “Limited Time” so probably best to sign up sooner than later.

What does Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite Status provide?
Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite is the first status tier in the program that is normally awarded when members stay 10 nights in a year. Overall it doesn’t provide a wealth of benefits, but what it does offer is better than nothing.
With Silver Elite you get two extra benefits over what the base level Marriott Bonvoy members get and those are 10% more points on stays and Priority Late Checkout.
The best benefit is the 10% extra points you earn on paid Marriott stays since it’s a guaranteed benefit and it’s always good to be able to earn more points to get you to those free award nights sooner.
The Priority Late Checkout is not a guaranteed benefit and is up to the hotel whether you get it based on availability and the “Lateness” may not be as late as the guaranteed 2pm and 4pm times provided to the higher elite tier levels.

Wrapping it up
It’s nice to see an extra little benefit being added to the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card, even if it’s just for a limited time. Yes, it’s only the first status level in Marriott Bonvoy which provides you with a couple of minor benefits, but those benefits are better than not having any.
