Clash of the Loyalty Programs! Avion Rewards vs. Scene+
The gloves came off in the RC Arena. as two behemoths in the Canadian loyalty landscape stepped into the ring. This time the sold out crowd witnessed a Clash of the Loyalty Programs with Avion Rewards battling against Scene+ across four rounds.

Hudson’s Bay Rewards paused as HBC enters creditor protection
Outside of occasional program revamps, we don’t talk much about Hudson’s Bay Rewards (nee HBC Rewards) here on RWRDS Canada. However, the latest news needs to be passed along to everyone. By now, I’m sure most of you have heard that Hudson’s Bay has entered creditor protection and as part of this the company has paused their reward program. For a company that needs restructuring this makes sense as a run on points redemptions would be a big drain on their cash reserves.
“As of February 1, 2025, approximately 8,255,145 Canadian customers had outstanding points worth a total of approximately $58,576,606.48”
There are over $58 million worth of points waiting to be redeemed! Could you imagine if everyone went out and redeemed these at the same time? That’s more points than they have in cash reserves!
The big concern however for the consumer is what will happen to the points if and when HBC emerges from creditor protection? Will they still have the same value or will the program be restructured as well? I guess only time will tell
All I can say is do not use or do not apply for a Hudsons Bay Mastercard at this time!
