Exciting news for those living in and around Ottawa! Lufthansa has announced new direct non-stop flights between Ottawa and Frankfurt. The flights will start May 16, 2020 and operate 5x per week:
From Germany’s largest hub, Lufthansa will depart for the North American
destination five times a week – on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays. The flight LH472 will leave Frankfurt at 1.45
p.m. and arrive at its destination at 4.05 p.m. local time. The return
flight LH473 will depart Ottawa at 5.50 p.m. and arrive in Frankfurt at
7.15 a.m. the next day. An Airbus A340-300 with a total of 279 seats on
board will carry out the flight. The booking classes are Business Class,
Premium Economy Class and Economy Class.

Air Canada has flown this route as a summer seasonal service so it is entirely possible we may not see Air Canada fly the route next year and leave it to LH. Seeing that LH is an Air Canada / Aeroplan partner it is not that huge of deal. You’ll still be able to book it as an Air Canada code share and earn and redeem Aeroplan miles for the flight. What may be even better news, is that if you are a Miles & More member, this route, seeing that it is new will most likely be included in Miles & More’s Monthly Mileage Bargain offers that sees redemption amounts typically cut in half (30,000 for economy and 55,000 for business vs. 60,000 and 112,000 respectively). If this is the case we should see those emerge around February of next year.
