ITA Airways set to join Star Alliance in 2026

Air Canada Aeroplan will be gaining a new airline partner in 2026 (or sooner if they set up a separate agreement) as it was announced today that ITA Airways will be joining Star Alliance. The Italian carrier is currently part of SkyTeam but the process to leave the alliance has been initiated due to Lufthansa investing in the airline and as Lufty is a Star Alliance carrier it only makes sense to move ITA Airways over.

 

 

As of today, Miles & More members can earn and redeem miles on all ITA Airways flights. At the same time, members of the ITA Airways Volare, can earn and redeem their points on all flights operated by Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines.

As of March 30 ITA Airways will move into Terminal 1 in Frankfurt and into Terminal 2 in Munich to facilitate easy connections to and from Lufthansa group flights. Also as of March 30 ITA Airways passengers can visit and use the approximately 130 lounges of the Lufthansa Group and its partners on their travels. ITA Airways’ lounges will also be open to Lufthansa Group passengers from this date.
