Here’s your RWRDS Canada update! Your near daily dose of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses, deals and more.

Earn up to 15,000 bonus Aeroplan points on Air Canada flights out of France

Aeroplan has a bonus points offer in place for Air Canada flights out of France and based on the terms and conditions there are no residency requirements which means Canadian members should be able to earn these points if they meet the promotion requirements. What is the primary requirement? Travel must originate from France and is valid on flights to Canada, the U.S. and select sun destinations. That means a round trip from Canada to France would not qualify however booking two one way trips, the first from Canada to France and the second from France to Canada should see the latter flight be eligible to earn the 7,500 points awarded for the one way. However, two one way international fares can prove to be quite a bit more expensive than a round trip so be sure to check all pricing beforehand.

American Airlines raises checked bag fees & limits mileage earning to select booking channels

Following in the footsteps of airlines like Alaska Airlines, American Airlines has announced increase to their checked bag fees. For the airline’s flights between Canada and the U.S. the fee is being raised from $30 to $35 for the first bag and from $40 to $45 for a second checked bag.

The airline has also taking a play from the hotel loyatly program playbook and has decided to limit AAdvantage mileage earning to flights that are booked only via select channels as of May 1, 2024:

Customers will earn miles and Loyalty Points on flights when they:

Book directly with American and eligible partner airlines.
Book travel anywhere as an AAdvantage Business™ member or contracted corporate traveler.
Book through preferred travel agencies. American will share a list of eligible preferred agencies on aa.com in late April.

This means that bookings made through non-preferred travel agents and online travel agencies like Expedia will not earn miles or Loyalty points.
