Scotiabank Home Hardware Pro Visa Card

Introducing the Scotia® Home Hardware PRO Visa* Business Card

Scotiabank, Scene+ and Home Hardware have expanded on their young partnership with the launch of the Scotia® Home Hardware PRO Visa* Business Card. This card has been “designed to support entrepreneurs in the trades and construction industry to better manage and expand their business.”

Earning points on the Scotia® Home Hardware PRO Visa* Business Card

The new card from Scotia earns 1 Scene+ point per dollar spent at Home Hardware. It does not earn any points on any other purchases.

If you are all about earning the most Scene+ points possible on Home Hardware purchases you’ll actually want to get yourself the Scotiabank Scene+ Visa card as it earns 2 points per dollar spent versus this card’s 1 point per dollar. That’s a big difference and yes the Scene+ Visa card is a personal card but thousands of business owners Canada wide use personal cards for their businesses as they tend to be more rewarding. It’s just a little more work tracking the purchases and splitting them between personal and business but the rewards can be more than worth it. Such is the case here as the Scene+ card earns double the amount of rewards on Home Hardware purchases and the Scene+ Visa still earns points on all other purchases.

Features and benefits

The card features a “Competitive interest rate tied to Scotiabank’s prime rate.” which means it could be a good option if you run a balance on your credit card.

The card will offer credit limits of up to $500,000 for small business owners – this  has potential to help out your business when combined with the lower interest rates.

Insurance wise the card offers purchase security (90 days) and extended warranty coverage (up to 1 additional year)

It provides up to 25% off base rates at participating AVIS locations Worldwide and at participating Budget locations in Canada and the U.S. when you pay with the card.

It also comes with Visa SavingsEdge which is applicable to all small business Visa cards issued on Canada. This program provides discounts at select retailers like Alamo, AWS (Amazon Web Services), Buffalo Wild Wings and more.

Wrapping it up

Unless there will be some future exclusive Home Hardware promotions for this card I honestly don’t see a lot of value in it in terms of small business rewards. The fact it only earns points at Home Hardware is extremely limiting when compared to almost every other card in market which provide rewards on all purchases. However, I don’t think this card is targeted towards the rewards market and the rewards earning at Home Hardware is more of an ‘icing on the cake’ type of thing.

If you or your business truly need to split your expenses away from personal ones and are someone who needs a potentially high credit limit and/or you carry a balance you should consider this card. That’s really who this card is being targetted to.

If you are looking more so for rewards card for your business and need to have a separate card there are other card options such as the Scotiabank Business Passport Visa ($199 annual fee) or the CIBC Costco Business Mastercard ($0 annual fee) that are more rewarding than this card.
