Air Canada adds new flights to Tulum and Charleston and boosts capacity on many North American routes for summer 2024
Air Canada is the first Canadian airline to add flights to the newly opened Tulum airport in Mexico. Air Canada will start serving the new airport in May of 2024 with flights from Montreal and Toronto. The airline is also adding Charleston, South Carolina to their route map with new flights from Toronto starting in March 2024. And rounding out the new routes, next year will see new flights from Montreal to Austin and St. Louis. In addition to these new routes Air Canada is boosting capacity on many routes within Canada and from Canada to U.S. for summer 2024. Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan makes earning elite status simpler in 2024
Alaska Airlines has announced several changes to earning to status in 2024 including no longer requiring actual flights on Alaska Airlines to earn status. These are the two key upcoming changes for Canadian Mileage Plan members:
Earning status becomes simpler. In 2024, status will be based on elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) earned through Alaska and our global partners. The number of EQMs you need to reach status stays the same and you’ll no longer need to fly a minimum number of Alaska flights.
A head start toward status for 100Ks. For our MVP Gold 100K members, any EQMs earned beyond 100K in 2023 will roll over toward requalifying for status in 2024.
Dropping the requirement to have flights on Alaska Airlines is of particular interest with the newly announced Alaska-Porter partnership as you can earn EQM’s for flying on Porter Airlines flights that are booked on Alaskaair.com. This means you can achieve Mileage Plan elite status by flying on Porter Airlines alone or any combination of Alaska Airlines partners that also provide EQM earning.
