Scene+ Home Hardware

It’s official! Scene+ is now available at Home Hardware nationwide!

Scene+ members can officially earn and redeem points at Home Hardware banner stores and online at homehardware.ca. The program soft launched on July 31st in Atlantic Canada and was rolled out progressively across the country during the month of August. Now, that the soft launch period is complete, Home Hardware and Scene+ have officially brought the partnership to market.

Earning Scene+ points at Home Hardware

Canadians are now able to earn Scene+ points at close to 1,100 stores under the Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre, and Home Furniture banners. The stores are found in every province and territory – yes, even towns in Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and the Yukon!

With both Home Hardware and Empire stores being present in the small towns and rural areas across Canada, people who did not previously have access to loyalty programs like Scene+ will now be able to earn and redeem points.

For those who prefer to shop from home, points earning is also available for eligible purchases made online.

The Home Hardware & Scene+ Offer

Earn 50 Scene+ points for every $50 spent

Scene+ members who scan or show their membership card will earn 50 points for every $50 spent on eligible purchases* in store or online. This works out to as much as one point per dollar or up to a 1% return with the program’s 1,000 points to $10 redemption rate at Home Hardware and other  Scene+ partners.

Shoppers should note that this earn rate is in multiples of $50, so when you visit a Home location and the sub-total of your purchases is $97 you may just want to grab that pack of batteries to push your total over $100 so that you earn 100 Scene+ points.

* Some items that are not eligible include lottery, gift cards, and hunting & fishing licenses. For a complete list of non-eligible purchases see the Terms & Conditions on this page.

* House Accounts and Pro Contractor accounts will not be able earn points on their purchases.

Accelerated credit card earn rate

As of August 1st, the Scotiabank Scene+ Visa Card received a new accelerated earn rate of 2 points per $1 spent with Home Hardware. This accelerated earn rate is not subject to the $50 rule for the general Scene+ program, which means you will always earn 2 points per eligible dollar spent with Home Hardware in store or online.

The 2x points is one of the highest points earn rates in Canada and is exclusive to Home Hardware, not available at other home improvement stores.

If you are a frequent Home Hardware shopper it is ideal to get the Scotiabank Scene+ Visa Card to accelerate your earning on your purchases. This card has no annual fee and has accelerated earn rates at Scene+ grocery partners (Sobeys, Safeway, FreshCo etc.) as well as on all Cineplex purchases, making it one of the most rewarding ways to pay.

Examples of earning Scene+ points at Home Hardware

Personally, I make sure to visit my local Home Hardware store in Cochrane, Alberta every fall to buy Canada’s own ecoTRACTION, which is an all natural snow and ice traction product that I use on my driveway and side walk. I like to buy three at a time ($20.99 each) to get me through the winter, which means I’ll be able to earn 50 Scene+ points on the pre-tax purchase of $62.97.

For others, Home Hardware’s participation in Scene+ can be even more rewarding. A great example is home or cottage renovations. If the building material portion of your renovation is $10,000, you would earn 10,000 Scene+ points by purchasing those materials from Home Hardware. In the end the 10,000 points are the equivalent of receiving a $100 rebate.

Using the renovation example with the Scene+ Visa Card – if you purchase the $10,000 in materials you would earn an additional 20,000 points using the credit card. Add that to the 10,000 points earned for simply showing your Scene+ loyalty card and you have 30,000 points in total. Those 30,000 points can then be redeemed for $300 in travel, groceries or even more supplies and materials from Home Hardware.

Not only are you being rewarded for your purchases, but by shopping at Home Hardware you are supporting independently owned small businesses across Canada.

Redeeming Scene+ points at Home Hardware is easy!

Redeeming points at Home Hardware provides an excellent value proposition and is very easy to do. The redemption rate is 1,000 points for $10 off at the till when shopping in store and members are able to redeem up to $500 worth of points (50,000) per transaction. You simply need to scan or show your Scene+ card and the cashier will ask if you would like to redeem points towards the purchase – easy as that!

The 1,000 points for $10 is the exact same redemption rate that Scene+ has for travel, grocery, dining, and Cineplex redemptions. This redemption rate translates to upwards of a 6% return^ for those who have a Scotiabank Scene+ credit card.

I’ve said on numerous occasions on how I like that Scene+ is utilizing the same redemption rate for all the primary reward options in their program. By doing so, Scene+ members don’t have to feel guilty about potentially losing value when they choose to redeem for “Reward Option A” instead of “Reward Option B”.

With the value being the same across the board you are good to go with redeeming 1,000 points for $10 off at Home Hardware one day and then 1,000 points for $10 off at Sobeys the next day and so on!

^ The return will vary based on the card and which spend categories the points were earned in

Wrapping it up

Scene+ members from coast to coast are now able to earn and redeem points on purchases made in-store or online with Home Hardware, Canada’s home grown home improvement store! This partnership is particularly significant for rural areas of Canada where many small centres lack a major loyalty program presence. It provides a local earn and burn opportunity for Scene+ members in small towns such as Snow Lake, Manitoba and Hay River, Northwest Territories that is equal to what is found in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver.
