A great new limited time welcome bonus was revealed last week for the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard. It takes the previous $450 WestJet dollars offer and combines it with two separate targeted offers we’ve seen recently offered on the card. Those two offers are no annual fee in the first year and a $0 companion voucher in the first year. Yes, you get both those special offers in addition to the $450 WestJet dollars when you apply for the card by June 30, 2023.
Breakdown of the Welcome Bonus
- 250 WestJet dollars after your first purchase
- 200 WestJet dollars when you spend $5,000 on the card within the first three months
- $0 round-trip companion voucher (plus taxes, fees, charges and other ATC) for travel within Canada or to/from the continental U.S. (excluding Hawaii)
- First year annual fee waiver. The $119 of the primary card will be waived for the first year.
Features and Benefits
When you hold the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, you and up to 8 guest travelling on the same reservation can each check your first bag for free. That is at least a $30 savings per person per direction of flight. If you have a family of four and you all check bags in both directions on a round trip that’s $240 in savings right there. The crazy thing is you don’t even have to purchase those actual flight tickets on your WestJet RBC World Mastercard! So long as you are a cardholder, which will be identified by your WestJet Rewards number you can take advantage of this benefit.
The second and potentially most valuable benefit is the annual Companion Voucher. You get it each year when you pay your annual fee on the card and it can provide some amazing value. Well, of course your first year is free with this offer!
The way it works is that when you purchase one ticket with WestJet you can get a companion ticket for $0 in the first year and as a little as $119 every year after that. Here are the annual companion ticket options (prices don’t include taxes, fees and charges):
- Canada and the Continental U.S. for $0 in first year, $119 thereafter
- The rest of WestJet’s network for $399
What does this mean? Well, it means it can save some money when you travel as the beauty of the voucher is that it works on any economy fare class including Premium at anytime with no blackouts. So you could book a more expensive Premium Fare to Hawaii and get your companion in Premium as well for only $399 + taxes and fees! Or it can provide huge savings on last minute travel when fares tend to skyrocket (this is typically when we here Rewards Canada have used them as much of our travel is not planned very far in advance)

Earning
The card earns WestJet dollars and earns those dollars as follows:

- 1.5% back in WestJet dollars on all other eligible purchases
Status Lift
Spending on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard counts towards your annual elite tier qualifying spend. Wrapping it up
This month’s offer on the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard is one of the best ever seen for the card. It has taken the longstanding 450 WestJet Dollars welcome bonus and added two additional bonuses that we had previously seen as separate offers. If you have been considering this card but were unsure about it now is the time to get it as at the very least you can try it out for year without paying the annual fee and keep it if you find value in the card – and many do – simply for the first checked bag free and companion voucher benefits!
