January 4 Update: Ontario Staycation Tax Credit of up to $400, earn 2,000 miles for joining Emirates Skywards & up to 10,000 points for joining and staying with Radisson

Here’s your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near

There is a new 2022 Ontario Staycation Tax Credit
that can be claimed on your 2022 taxes. This is a great incentive for
those looking to travel but want to stay a little closer to home. Here
are the details as set out by the Ontario Government:


The government is proposing a new, temporary Ontario Staycation Tax Credit for the 2022 tax year. This Personal Income Tax (PIT)
credit would provide Ontario residents with support of 20 per cent of
eligible 2022 accommodation expenses of up to $1,000 for an individual
and $2,000 for a family, for a maximum credit of $200 or $400,
respectively.

Ontario residents could apply for this refundable credit when they file their 2022 PIT returns and benefit even if they do not owe any PIT. An eligible accommodation expense would have to be:

  • For a stay of less than a month at an eligible accommodation such
    as a hotel, motel, resort, lodge, bed-and-breakfast establishment,
    cottage or campground in Ontario;
  • For a stay between January 1 and December 31 of 2022;
  • Incurred for leisure (e.g., a non-business purpose);
  • Paid by the Ontario tax filer, their spouse or common-law partner, or their eligible child, as set out on a detailed receipt;
  • Not reimbursed to the tax filer, their spouse or common-law
    partner, or their eligible child, by any person, including by a friend
    or an employer; and
  • Subject to Goods and Services Tax (GST)/Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), as set out on a detailed receipt.

yet you can earn 2,000 free miles for joining by March 31. 2022. The
promotion is from their partner airline Flydubai and all you have to do
is use promo code FLYDUBAI when you register for the program. Note they
state the miles have a 12 month expiry so you’ll want to use them in the
next year if you can. Seeing as Emirates offers Miles+Cash options as
low as 2,000 miles so long as you are going to travel with them it

is offering up to 10,000 Radisson Rewards points when you join the
program and complete stays within three months of joining. You’ll earn
3,000 bonus points on the first stay and 7,000 on the second stay. This
offer is open until the end of they year so you don’t have to go out and
join right away rather you’ll want to time your joining of the program
