August 19 Update: What to do if you don’t receive an Amex multiplier, Cobalt multipliers for YYC Food Trucks & a couple of AIR MILES bonuses

Here’s your Rewards Canada Daily update! Your daily dose (or near
daily dose) of loyalty program, credit card and travel news, bonuses,
deals and more.

 
Here is a reminder to everyone using an American Express card at
merchants that could or should be considered part of one of their spend
category accelerators but only earn 1 point per dollar instead of 2, 3 or 5 points. If this happens to you
you can reach out to American Express and have them look into it, in
fact American Express encourages it as this is what they asked us to
pass onto our readers back in 2017:

It’s best for the Cardmember to call customer service for
bonusing related issues. We need the Cardmembers data to be able to
source the transaction in the back end to determine if the multiplier
worked…. without Cardmember data, it’s hard to determine what would
have happened.

Please note this is only for Canadian merchants as American Express
Canada can only control merchant codes here in Canada (hence the wording
of 5x points this 2x points that for purchases in Canada). So if you do
end up receiving only 1x points on your Cobalt Card for what you thought would have been a 5x points dining purchase
here in Canada you can contact customer service and they will look into
it. And in most cases they will provide you a manual override to give
you 5x points on that said purchase as a courtesy gesture and then
hopefully by the next time you spend at that merchant they are coding
properly! Unfortunately there are times where Amex cannot adjust the
merchant category – a good example is a hotel restaurant that doesn’t
have a separate merchant account from the hotel itself meaning it would
code as travel instead of dining

That brings us nicely into some more confirmed American Express Cobalt Multipliers and these are for a couple of food trucks here in Calgary. Both the Bear Balls and Bento Burrito food trucks code properly at 5x points. Not only that the food is delicious from both of them! We have added these to our American Express Cobalt™ Card Confirmed Multiplier Locations
