WestJet has announced a further extension of the expiry of companion pass vouchers that come from the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and WestJet RBC Mastercard. This marks the third such extension of the vouchers since the onset of the pandemic. The last update was from late December which extended the expiry of companion vouchers to the end of June 2021. That end date is now being moved to December 31, 2021. Here are the details from WestJet:
- Unredeemed WestJet RBC credit card companion vouchers expiring between June 2021 and December 2021 will be extended to December 31, 2021.
- For WestJet RBC® World Elite Mastercard‡ cardholders who exchanged a valid companion voucher for four airport lounge vouchers, any unredeemed RBC lounge vouchers expiring between June 2021 and November 2021 will also be extended to December 31, 2021.
- You will see the new expiry date extension reflected in your account by May 31. This includes those vouchers that were previously extended to June 2021.
As you see not only does it cover companion vouchers that you hold in your account it also covers airport lounge vouchers that cardholders may have exchanged their companion passes for. WestJet told us that the bulk of passes held by their members are set to expire in June. With the travel environment being one where most people will not be able to redeem them by the end of June they wanted to make sure that their members have more opportunity to actually use the vouchers that they have earned.
This set of December 31 now lines up with the extension that was provided to vouchers issued as milestone awards issued to WestJet Rewards elite members and of course the already in place elite status extension for those members. This makes it pretty easy to remember now – pretty much all the important items in WestJet Rewards have been extended to December 31.
