The one question I have been asked the most over the past few months via email, the blog, twitter
and more has been “Do you know when the Amex bonus for transferring
Membership Rewards Points to British Airways will return?”
I talked to Amex and their response is “there are no transfer
bonuses in the works.” What this means is anyone’s best guess. I personally don’t
think we’ll see one in the short term ( 1-3 months) but who knows I could
be wrong!
I’m
hoping they haven’t killed the bonus as like many of you I’m sitting on
a lot of points waiting to be transferred to BA. I recently took
advantage of the Diners Club Club Rewards 30% transfer bonus to BA for a
small transfer (4 – Avios 9,000 RT flights) but that bonus just nets out a little above an Avios per
dollar whereas the Amex transfer with a 50% bonus would net out closer to 3
Avios per dollar for me. Here’s to keeping our fingers crossed that it will be
around sometime this year! On another Amex question note, some readers
have asked when and if the 20K sign up bonus for the SPG Amex
will return and same answer, no plans at the moment for that bonus. We
usually see it twice a year so my guess is that it will be sometime this
fall.
