Limited Time: Earn up to 50,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles with the American Express AeroplanPlus Platinum Card (and how to make that 65,000 miles)

This seems to be the week of increased sign up bonuses, first it was the RBC Cathay Pacific Asia Miles Visa then the Starwood Preferred Guest Card from American Express and now another one from the people at Amex:

Now you can earn up to 50,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles when you apply for the American Express AeroplanPlus Platinum Card by August 31st.  You'll receive 25,000 Bonus Miles after your first use of the Card, plus earn 25,000 bonus miles after you spend $1,000 in your first three months of Card membership.

Now you can increase that to up to 65,000 Miles when to take into account the Aeroplan Distinction launch bonus. Here are the details of this bonus as pulled from RC's Aeroplan page:

Earn up to 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles for Aeroplan members holding an Aeroplan branded credit/charge card who reach dBlack or dDiamond status. Register Online (Registration is required) Register by Dec 31, 13
- dDiamond members will receive 15,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles
- dBlack members will receive 10,000 Bonus Aeroplan Miles

So you have to be a dDiamond member to get the additional 15,000 miles, which means you have to earn 100,000 Aeroplan miles to get to that status level which for some of you should be a breeze others it may be tougher but you can still get to 60,000 Aeroplan miles with dBlack status by earning 50,000 Aeroplan Miles in the year. If you plan on taking advantage of this card bonus I would register for the Distinction bonus first then apply for the card.  You can apply for the card here.

  1. Bonus miles from cards do not apply Distinction Level...

    1. That is correct, I may have not explained my positioning well. Basically I meant that if you earn 50,000 or 100,000 Aeroplan Miles (outside of your credit card bonus) you can enjoy those bonus miles.
