Rewards Canada Daily Update: August 7, 2012

News, Tips & Tricks

Marriott Rewards has long been known as one of the toughest programs to qualify
for the highest level elite tier, in this case Platinum with Marriott and once
qualified they have been knocked by many as there are no complimentary suite
upgrades for those Platinum members. That seems to be slowly changing as Marriott
will now be offering complimentary suite upgrades to Platinum members but only
for stays in the Asia Pacific region. Marriott is taking a step in the right
direction with this announcement and hopefully it will be implemented Worldwide
sometime soon. For more details please see here,

If you hold Gold or Platinum Elite status with Le Club Accor Hotels is offering
you free breakfast for one or two people every morning of your stay and a welcome
amenity when you redeem your points for hotel reward vouchers. This offer is
valid for any of their hotels in North America for stays until August 31. Visit

British Airways Executive Club will now allow you to use your Avios points to
upgrade flights that are booked via a travel agent. Previously the using Avios
points to upgrade your flight option was only available for flights booked directly
with British Airways. This is how it is now worded on BA’s website:

Bookings made through your travel agent can now be upgraded on ba.com or
through your local Executive Club service centre. The flights you would like
to upgrade must be booked and ticketed in eligible booking classes, however
Bulk Tour (BT) and Inclusive Tour (IT) fare types are not eligible.

US Airways Dividend Miles is offering a pseudo-fast track to their elite
Preferred status program. This offer requires you to buy 90 day status and then
fly a certain amount of miles to maintain that status or achieve a higher status

in the next 90 days where this status can come in handy.
